New Forest Outdoor Learning Centre
Our School
NFOLC is an independent specialist provider of education on the edge of the New Forest, Hampshire for children aged from 5-12 who have a range of severe or complex needs arising from life trauma, Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), attachment disorder or a phobia of education. It focuses on supporting children to reengage in education. The staff team are trained in Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP) which is proven to help students build trusting relationships. Research has found that a key tenet of effective teaching is the development of a positive relationship which is why play-based learning and activities that foster inter-subjectivity are heavily featured on our student’s programme.
At NFOLC we offer a vibrant learning environment for our children founded on an understanding of the principles of sensory processing, self-regulation and the power of the natural world. The physical environment of the school includes lots of natural wood and light, small and open spaces and green surroundings which provide a wonderful calming canvass for our curriculum. By changing the environment in which students experience learning, we challenge their perception of education.
We are part of New Forest Care, a specialist provider for children in education and residential care. The school is registered with the DfE to provide up to 25 places for boys and girls from a wide range of neighbouring local authorities.
NFOLC evidences and supports a statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. We believe that all children have the right to be safe. We recognise that we have a duty to ensure effective arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children by creating a positive and transparent school atmosphere. We do this by monitoring our practice and providing comprehensive up to date training for staff. We also provide well-informed pastoral support for pupils and their families.
We are committed to establishing and maintaining effective procedures for safer recruitment and inter-agency working relationships.
